Vietnam ICT for SME 2008 Conference/Exhibition themed “SME – On the Way to WTO’s Integration” will officially opened on May 14 & 15, 2008 at Equatorial Hotel, Hochiminh City. The event is jointly organized by HCM City Department of Posts and Telematics and IDG Vietnam, and supported by Ministry of Information and Communications, HCM City People’s Committee, VCCI, and Investment and Trade Promotion Center (ITPC).
Deploying IT applications in manufacturing and business management is a significant element for enterprises’ success. In recent years, ICT application in enterprises has gained a certain improvement; however, it’s still not yet met the necessary requirement. According to a research conducted by VCCI (Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry) in 2006, 98% of 526 enterprises based in Hanoi and HCM City has used computers for their business operation but mostly at office application level. There are a few enterprises invested in such total solutions as ERP or CRM. 65% of the enterprises has website but not often been updated; 85% of those websites are not well secured.
In the first day of the Vietnam ICT for SME 2008 (May 14, 2008), after the opening ceremony, the conference is started by series of speeaches focus on ICT applications in SMEs. History has shown that SME sectors are cornerstones to driving emerging economies forward. As a leading company in providing solutions for SME, Mr Francis Lee, Chief Representative and Country Manager of SAP Vietnam will present a topic on “The Vietnam Engine – The Coping with the Speech of Change”.
As a local company which well understands the market and the ICT application situation in Vietnamese companies, Mr Ha Than, Managing Director of Lac Viet JSC will introduce its new product called GSme: Great Solution at Small Expense for SME with Microsoft SBS.
According to a market research conducted by IDG in 2007, the violation of software copyright in Vietnam has decreased positively from 92% in 2003 to 88% in 2006. Many organizations, enterprises now start to use authorized software for their business operation. However, others still do not understand the software legalization program. Microsoft will introduce at the conference its “Legalization program for Small & Medium Enterprises”.
After more than a year adapting to the World Trade Organization (WTO), Vietnamese SMEs have been aware of the important role of trade marks and brand names, as well as international standard specifications for product quality. In the second day of the conference (May 15, 2008), the ITPC will host a forum of ”Vietnamese Brands – National Value – Global Outreach”. The forum has the participation of specialists who have experience on building up Vietnamese well-known brands. Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Minh, former Deputy Minister of Ministry of Aquiculture will share her experience on International Standard Specifications of Seafood Made-in-Vietnam Brands in Exporting; Mr Diep Thanh Kiet, Vice Chairman of Association of Garment Textile Embroidery Knitting (AGTEK) will present a topic on International Standard Specifications of Garment and Shoes in Vietnam in Exporting; and Mr Bui Quang Do will share the same experience on ICT and Electronics industry.
The Vietnam ICT for SME is an annual event and it has drawn attention of ICT solution suppliers as well as buyers from government organizations and SMEs.
